This Week in Cincinnati: Helping veterans with addiction, homelessness
Joseph House’s Mark Levine, associate director, and Nate Pelletier, executive director, joined WCPO’s Craig McKee for a segment of “This Week in Cincinnati” to talk about veterans and substance abuse.
“The brain doesn’t heal in 30 days, just because the insurance companies want them to heal in 30 days,” explained Levine. “We give them the opportunity to be able to go through a structured program for about three months and then we have really our own after care at Joseph House. They are staying there in a supportive environment with other vets.”
Joseph House also tries to address the root causes of homelessness.
“Homelessness is not necessarily directly [vets’] problem,” said Pelletier. “It’s the mental health, it’s the societal reintegration, it’s obviously the addiction piece that we work and how they all work together in ways that leads to them being homeless and not having a job.”
