Staff Salute: Katie Waits
Katie Waits is a clinical counselor at Joseph House with a passion for giving back. Learn more about her background, experience and skills:
What degrees and certifications do you have?
I have a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Cincinnati. I am a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) and currently working to finish my master’s degree.
When did you join the Joseph House team?
I joined the Joseph House team in May 2017.
What inspired you to work at a rehabilitation facility as a career?
I started working in rehabilitation centers in 2011 because I wanted to try something different. I soon fell in love with the work and have been doing drug and alcohol counseling in some capacity ever since. There is such a high need for substance abuse treatment in our community right now, and I’m grateful that I get to have a part in meeting that need.
What drew you to Joseph House, as opposed to another facility, as a place to work?
I was drawn to Joseph House because it’s a smaller agency than most in the area. Our tight-knit team allows us to work more closely with each other and our clients, and I feel that this gives us the opportunity to provide better quality care to our clients.
In your own words, what makes Joseph House successful?
Our open-minded team is what makes us successful. We are always looking at ways to improve and implement new treatment techniques. We can provide quality evidence based treatment to our clients and we don’t take a “one size fits all” approach.
What is your favorite part about working with Veterans?
Our veterans have done so much for us and our country. This is just a small way I can give back to them for all they have sacrificed.
How can people get in touch with you and the Joseph House team?
If you’re a veteran or know a veteran struggling with addiction, please contact us at [email protected] or 513-241-2965.
