Our Team

Joseph House team members are more than counselors, clinicians and addiction specialists — they’re often veterans themselves. Some team members also provide clients with peer support, drawing from having faced similar traumas, struggles and pathways to recovery.

We are fortunate to have a dedicated team that provides a full spectrum of services to our clients.

Leadership

Alicia Patterson
Executive Director

My Why: As a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran — serving eight years with Lima Company 3/25, 4th Marine Division — I’ve always believed in being part of something greater than myself. Working at Joseph House allows me to live that belief every day by helping fellow veterans reclaim their lives.

Alicia Patterson returned to her home state of Ohio after eight years in Florida, four with BayCare Behavioral Health in Tampa and four years with the Veterans Treatment Courts in Pinellas County. She joined Joseph House in 2016 as a clinical counselor and advanced to associate director in 2017. In 2018, she was named executive director, becoming Joseph House’s first female leading the nonprofit since its founding in 1993.

Patterson holds a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on substance abuse therapy from Webster University and became a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC) in 2018. Her career reflects a deep dedication to supporting those affected by addiction — especially veterans — through compassionate, evidence-based care.

Brandon Cooper
Program Director

My Why: I strive to play a meaningful role in a veteran’s journey, supporting their growth, celebrating their progress and witnessing their success.

Brandon Cooper joined Joseph House in April 2017. He brings to Joseph House more than 20 years of experience working with those who have experienced homelessness, mental health disorders and employment difficulties. Cooper earned a master’s degree in mental health counseling from Xavier University and a Bachelor of Science from Union College. He is a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC).

Brian Owens
Clinical Director

My Why: My father served in the Army in World War II in the Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart. I have many friends and family members who also have served our country in the military. I had always wanted to support veterans in my career, and Joseph House was the perfect place to do that. I strongly believe in our mission to bring hope and healing to veterans.

Brian Owens joined Joseph House in January of 2020, bringing over 40 years of clinical and leadership experience in the behavioral healthcare industry to Joseph House. He has been recognized for his outstanding work, receiving the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, Butler County Mental Health Board’s Ray of Hope Award and Dr. Howard Fabing’s Award for Excellence in Psychiatric Nursing.

Owens holds a Master of Arts in Community Counseling and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati. He has a Nursing Diploma degree from The Christ Hospital School of Nursing and Health. He is also a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with Supervision Designation (LPCC-S) and a Psychiatric Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio. He is certified in Moral Reconation Therapy and is a Peer Recovery Supporter Supervisor. Owens is married, has three children, loves animals and volunteers at his church, as his faith and family are very important to him.

Joey Daniel
Operations Supervisor and Peer Support Specialist

My Why: I’m driven by the opportunity to share my journey and offer hope to those facing the same struggles I once did. I aim to be a guiding light for those who feel lost, inspiring personal transformation and spiritual growth along the way.

Joey Daniel has been with the Joseph House team since February of 2022. He spent eight years serving with the U.S. Army Reserve as a logistics specialist. Daniel was first introduced to Joseph House in 2012 as a client who was struggling with a substance use disorder and homelessness. After completing treatment, he worked as a treatment technician and site manager at a local treatment center before joining the Joseph House team. Daniel finds value in sharing his recovery journey with his fellow veterans who are battling addiction.

Milynn Hoffman
Finance Director

My Why: I have always enjoyed working in the nonprofit sector, keeping organizations financially healthy and solving day-to-day challenges. Being on the Joseph House team allows me to serve veterans and honor my father, a former Navy officer, and a great uncle with whom I was very close who served in World War I.

Milynn Hoffman joined Joseph House in 2020 as Finance Director, bringing 30 years of financial accounting as a CPA, the last 15 of which have been in service to nonprofit organizations. The signature strengths guiding her daily work include creativity, fairness, judgement, honesty and social intelligence. Hoffman took an active role in Joseph House’s capital campaign and revealed that constructing the new facility in Camp Washington was one of the most rewarding projects in her career.

“This team pours their hearts into the work that we do. We understand what it is to serve our country and to sacrifice. Healing starts with human connection, and I’m proud to lead such a devoted group of professionals.”
